Carivog International, organisers of Miss Trinidad & Tobago UK, are delighted to announce Miss Essie Amelia Parks representing Tobago has won the title of Miss Trinidad & Tobago UK 2008 and the title Website Queen, the peoples choice.

She is a Marketing Director for one of the world’s largest non profit suppliers of computers to developing countries and has previously worked in the Ministry of Social Development in Trinidad.

Her qualifications are:
MSc Social Policy and Development
B.Sc. Economics and Finance_(Hons)
Project Management Certificate and
Microsoft Project Certificate.

She has prior experience in modelling and in 2000 was crowned Miss Tobago Festival Queen. Her ambition is to make a significant contribution to her country and the rest of the world in the fields of social policy and development.

 

 

 

 

We welcome and congratulate the 2008’s winner, Miss Parks. Congratulations also to the 1st runner up, Miss Sharlene Lindsey who previously won the first Miss Carnival Splash, August 2008 which was held at Alexandra Palace London. We also congratulate 2nd runner up Miss Karola Rajoo. They will both need to be prepared to step into Ms Park’s shoes for the occasional situation when she may be unable to carry out her duties at the various guest appearances.

In the early hours of Sunday 20 September, immediately after the show Ms Parks was interviewed on BBC Radio 5’s Up All Night where she spoke about her country and its achievements. This interview can be heard via the link on the home page.

The judges on the night were:

Miss Trinidad and Tobago UK 2006 Ms Chandani Persaud - Biomedical Scientist and classically trained Indian dancer.
Mr James N Drummer-CEO, Solar Green Tourism Ltd and a well known personality in the beauty pageant industry.
Mr Morris Roots managing director and owner of Morris Roots Natural hair salons in London.
Victoria Lenzou Lee a fellow Trinbagonian, internationally accomplished artist and designer residing in London.
Mateen Hepburn businessman and promoter of Busspepper promotions.

Presiding over the judges was the Adjudicator Mr Ansel Wong. His accomplishments include Operational Director Focus Consultancy, Academic Vice Principal Morley College, Deputy Chief Education Officer Lambeth Council and Head of Ethnic Minorities Unit for the Greater London Council. He also contributed to the establishment of Black History Month here in the UK

They were assisted by Ms Dee Cummings, a director on the board of the Trinidad & Tobago Professionals Network UK.

World renowned dancer Greta Mendez was the Choreographer for the show. The Delegates training, presentation and evening gown routine was by Denise Darlington while deportment and etiquette training was by Frances Mathews. Angela Cox conducted the holistic workshops and make up workshop by Karen Salandy. Miss Cox Director extended her gratitude to the judges for their professionalism on behalf Carivog International.

The Entertainment

Many thanks to the many performers, who donated their time: H2O Phlo, Paddington Arts Steel band, Dancers Angela Warren and Robert Eugene, Singer Kirsty Nichol, Dancers Creative Learning Circuit (calypso bamboo dance and Chinese dance routine), and Greta Mendez.

In keeping with the Miss Trinidad & Tobago UK’s motto of: Trinidad & Tobago, in conjunction with the UK other Caribbean islands and the world, Chinese culture was featured this year in the opening number in the form of a spectacular dance routine using the large representations of a lotus flower. The petals were designed by Cleary Salandy from one of London's Mahogany Mas band.

Carivog International was delighted to be hosting the début UK performance of the leading Caribbean R&B soca vocal group, H2O Phlo, who had the audience begging for more. They also serenaded the delegates in the evening gown segment of the show. Many thanks to Caribbean Airlines who sponsored the travel arrangements for H2O Phlo.

The presenters for the evening were Alafair Celestine former Miss Carivog Model International and Miss Commonwealth International 2004 and Smokey Joe well known Soca DJ and BBC radio DJ. The DJ for the night was the “Soca Professor”.

Amongst our distinguished guests were His Excellency John Jeremie S.C. High Commissioner for the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, Mr Clayton Goodwin, Ken Chung, promoters and various beauty queens, including former Miss Trinidad & Tobago UK title holders.

A raffle was drawn on the night with all proceeds donated to our affiliated chaity KIND.
